Legal Information and Company Details

This page contains the legal information that updatesry is required to publish about itself as the operator of this website, together with the rules that apply when you access it. Please read it alongside our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Terms and Conditions and Payment and Refund Policy, which form part of the same set of legal notices.

1. Who we are and our role as website operator

This website is owned and operated by updatesry, a commercial organisation established in the United Kingdom and registered in England and Wales. Throughout this page, 'we', 'us' and 'our' refer to updatesry, and 'this website' refers to the site on which this legal information page is published.

The site is a professional hub for live television production. Its editorial focus includes studio equipment integration, dynamic camera techniques, acoustic optimisation, lighting setups and reliable production processes for news programmes, interviews and live shows. The material we publish is intended for producers, directors, technical crew, facilities staff, students and others working in or studying broadcast and live-event production.

We act as the operator and publisher of the website and, for the purposes of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, as the controller of personal data collected through it. Where a course, workshop, masterclass or other service is delivered with a partner organisation, we identify the delivery partner and the contracting party before you book, so that you know who you are contracting with and who is responsible for delivering the service.

2. Mandatory company and trading disclosures

2.1 Registered identity

Under the Companies Act 2006 and the related trading disclosure rules, the following information must appear on our website, business letters, order forms and emails in legible characters:

  • Registered Company Name: updatesry
  • Company Registration Number: 13033970
  • Place of Registration: England and Wales
  • Registered Office Address: Beaconsfield Studios, Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1LG, United Kingdom
  • VAT Number: 494089156
  • Legal Form: private limited company

Failure to display this information is an offence, so we keep it visible on this page and in our emails and invoices. If we ever trade under a name that differs from our registered name, we will make that relationship clear, for example by stating that a trading name is a name used by updatesry.

2.2 Directors and share capital

Where the name of a director is included on this website or in a business letter other than as a signatory, we disclose the names of all of our directors at the same time, as required by the trading disclosure rules. Where we refer to share capital, any reference is to paid-up share capital. Details of our directors, members and shareholders, where they are not required to be published on this page, are available from the public register maintained by Companies House.

2.3 Provision of Services Regulations 2009

Because we supply services in the United Kingdom, the Provision of Services Regulations 2009 require us to make the following information available: our name, legal status and business address; contact details that allow rapid and direct communication; contact details for complaints and information requests; the price of a service where it is pre-determined; the main features of the service where they are not obvious from the context; our VAT Number; details of any trade register, authorisation scheme or professional body that applies to us; our general terms and conditions; the governing law and jurisdiction terms of our service contracts; any after-sales guarantee that gives you more protection than the law requires; and details of any professional liability insurance we are required to hold. We make this information available on this website and, where relevant, in the documents we send you.

2.4 Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002

Where we advertise or supply goods or services through this website or by email, the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 also apply. They require us to give you contact details that allow direct, rapid and effective communication, in addition to an email address; a geographical address at which we are established, rather than a post office box; details of any trade body or public commercial register of which we are a member, including a registration number; our VAT Number; and, where a contract can be concluded online, a description of the different technical steps you must follow to conclude it, whether we store the contract and how you can access it, and the languages offered. This legal information page, together with our Terms and Conditions, is where we provide that information.

2.5 Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013

When we sell to consumers, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 require certain information to be given before you are bound by a contract and confirmed afterwards. That information includes the main characteristics of the course, place or service; our identity and contact details; the total price inclusive of tax and any delivery charges; arrangements for payment, delivery and performance; and details of after-sales service and commercial guarantees. For distance sales such as online course bookings, we also make sure that the button you click to place an order is clearly labelled so that you understand you are taking on an obligation to pay, that any optional extra is not added by default, and that you receive information about your right to cancel and a model cancellation form where one is required. Where a booking is for a leisure activity, entertainment or similar service on a specific date, the statutory cancellation right may not apply; we tell you before you book when that is the case.

2.6 Alternative dispute resolution

If you have a complaint that we cannot resolve through our own complaints procedure, we will tell you on a durable medium, such as an email, that we cannot settle the complaint with you, give you the name and website address of an approved alternative dispute resolution (ADR) entity that would be competent to deal with it, and confirm whether or not we are willing to use that entity. We are not obliged to participate in ADR, but we will always consider a reasonable request. Consumers in the United Kingdom may also contact their local trading standards service, and consumers in the European Union may use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.

2.7 Modern slavery and people with significant control

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires commercial organisations with a global turnover of £36 million or more to publish a slavery and human trafficking statement for each financial year and to place a prominent link to it on their home page. If we meet that threshold in any financial year, we will publish the statement on this website and link to it from our home page. Companies in the United Kingdom are also required to keep a register of people with significant control (PSC) and to file that information at Companies House; we maintain that register and update our public filings when it changes.

2.8 Accessibility

Although we are not a public sector body and are not subject to the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018, we aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at level AA, to provide transcripts or captions for training video where we control the media, and to keep this page readable with assistive technology. If you meet a barrier, tell us using the contact route below and we will provide the information in another format where we reasonably can.

3. Registered office, contact details and complaints

Our Registered Office Address is Beaconsfield Studios, Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1LG, United Kingdom. You can reach us by email at [email protected] or by telephone on +44 1494 671234. Our contact page also carries a contact form that you can use for general enquiries, course questions and requests for information.

Please use these routes for all correspondence. If you have a complaint, mark it clearly as a complaint and include your booking or order reference where you have one. We aim to acknowledge complaints promptly and to give you a substantive reply within a reasonable period. If we cannot resolve the matter with you directly, we will tell you about the ADR options described above.

4. Purpose, scope and intended audience

This website exists for information and professional education. We publish explainers, technical overviews, practical guides and course material about studio equipment integration, camera operation and movement, acoustic treatment and monitoring, lighting design and control, and production workflows that keep news output, interviews and live shows on air. Our audience is professional and semi-professional: producers, directors, camera and lighting crews, sound engineers, studio managers, production students and facilities teams.

The content is general in nature. It reflects our own practice and the standards we apply, but it is not a substitute for manufacturer documentation, recognised national standards, site-specific risk assessments or professional advice for a particular installation. Nothing on this website is broadcasting, legal, financial or health and safety advice for your own premises. The site is intended for adults; it is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

5. Access to the website and acceptable use

You may browse this website for your own lawful purposes. You must not:

  • use the site in any way that breaches applicable law, including data protection, copyright and computer misuse legislation;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers, accounts or any connected system, or interfere with its security, integrity or performance;
  • introduce viruses, malware or any other harmful code, or carry out automated scraping, harvesting or bulk downloading of our content or course materials;
  • copy, record, resell, republish or distribute paid course material, or use it to build a competing training product;
  • use the contact form or our email addresses to send unsolicited marketing, chain messages or abusive, misleading or unlawful content; or
  • misrepresent your identity, your employer or your relationship with updatesry.

We may suspend, restrict or withdraw access to all or part of the site, without notice, where we reasonably believe these rules have been broken or where we need to protect the site, our users or our intellectual property. Where it is proportionate to do so, we will explain the reason for a restriction.

6. Intellectual property, trademarks and permitted use of content

All content on this website, including text, course outlines, syllabuses, diagrams, photographs, audio, video, layout and source code, is owned by updatesry or licensed to us, and is protected by copyright, database rights, design rights and, where applicable, trademark law. The name updatesry and our logos are our trademarks. Product names, equipment brands and third-party logos that appear on the site are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used for identification and descriptive purposes only, which does not imply any endorsement or partnership.

You may view the site, print or download short extracts for your own personal, non-commercial study, quote reasonable extracts with clear attribution to updatesry, and link to our pages. You may not republish substantial parts of the site, sell or commercially exploit our content, use it in paid training or consultancy without our written permission, remove or alter copyright notices, or present our material as your own. If you would like a licence to reuse content, contact us at [email protected].

7. Accuracy, availability and limitation of liability

We prepare our content with care and review it periodically, but live production technology changes quickly. Equipment specifications, frequency allocations, software versions and best practice can differ between manufacturers, venues and territories. We therefore publish the site on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis and do not warrant that every page is complete, current or suitable for your particular project. You are responsible for verifying critical technical, licensing and safety details against the relevant manufacturer documentation and standards before relying on them.

We aim to keep the site available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Access may be suspended for maintenance, updates, security work or reasons outside our control. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business, loss of data or loss of opportunity arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content. Nothing in this page limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other consumer legislation are unaffected, and nothing here takes away the rights you have in relation to a service we supply to you.

8. External links and third-party content

We link to external resources such as equipment manufacturers, standards bodies, broadcasters, software vendors and industry associations because they are useful to our readers. Those links are provided for convenience and information only; they are not endorsements, and we do not control the content, availability, accuracy or security of third-party sites. When you follow an external link you leave our site and the terms of use and privacy notices of the other site apply. We are not responsible for third-party content, including embedded media, feeds or advertising supplied by others, and we accept no liability for loss arising from your use of a third-party site. If you believe we have linked to something inaccurate or unlawful, tell us and we will review it.

9. Related policies and legal documents

The following documents form part of our legal framework and should be read together with this page. They are available from this website:

  • Privacy Policy — how we collect, use, store, share and delete personal data, the lawful bases we rely on, retention periods, international transfers, and your rights under the UK GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, and your right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
  • Cookie Policy — the cookies and similar technologies used on this site, their purposes and durations, and how to accept, refuse or withdraw consent, in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR). Non-essential cookies are set only with your consent, which you can give or refuse through the cookie banner shown on your first visit.
  • Terms and Conditions — the contract between you and updatesry when you use the site, enrol on a course or book a service, including booking and payment terms, transfer and cancellation rules, conduct expectations and the limits of our responsibility.
  • Payment and Refund Policy — accepted payment methods, invoicing, taxes, deposit arrangements and the circumstances in which refunds, credits or transfers are available.
  • Accessibility Statement — the accessibility standard we work to and how to report a problem.

Where there is a conflict between this page and a signed contract or the Terms and Conditions in relation to a specific purchase, the signed contract or Terms and Conditions prevail for that purchase. This page always prevails for the mandatory company disclosures it contains.

10. Course bookings, fees and cancellation

Prices for courses, workshops and consultancy are shown on the relevant page and include VAT where it applies. A contract is formed when we confirm your booking. Because places are limited and trainers and studio space are reserved in advance, cancellations and transfers are handled under the Terms and Conditions and the Payment and Refund Policy, which set out notice periods and any charges. Where you are a consumer buying at a distance, you normally have fourteen days to cancel, unless the service is due to be performed on a specific date as a leisure or entertainment activity, or you have asked us to start work during the cancellation period and acknowledged that you will lose the right to cancel once the service is fully performed. Attendance certificates and records of completion are issued by us and describe attendance only; they are not a regulated qualification unless we say so expressly.

11. Applicable law, jurisdiction and consumer dispute rights

This legal information page and your use of the website are governed by the law of England and Wales. Subject to the paragraph below, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute that arises in connection with the site. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring proceedings in the courts of your own part of the United Kingdom, and we will bring proceedings against a consumer only in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom in which that consumer lives.

Nothing in this page removes or restricts the mandatory consumer protections available to you in your country of residence, and nothing prevents you from contacting a consumer advice service, trading standards or a data protection supervisory authority. If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which regulates data protection in the United Kingdom, or to the supervisory authority in the country where you live, work or where the alleged infringement took place. We would appreciate the chance to address the matter with you first.

12. Changes to this page and how to reach us

We review this page whenever our legal details, services or the law change, and at least once a year. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated. If we make a material change that affects your rights, we will highlight it on the site and, where we have your details and the change is significant, tell you by email. Continued use of the website after an update means you accept the revised page.

If you have a question about company information, this page or any of our policies, contact updatesry by email at [email protected], by telephone on +44 1494 671234, or by post at Beaconsfield Studios, Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1LG, United Kingdom. Please quote the relevant section of this page so we can answer you quickly.
